Clear Bra Kit FAQ

What is a clear bra?

A clear bra is the newer version of the auto bra. It is made of a polyurethane film that protects almost any painted surfaces from chips and scratches. Commonly used on bumpers and hoods, it can be put on rocker panels, door edges, rear bumper luggage areas and any other painted surfaces of a vehicle.

Why is a Clear Bra better than other car bras or no protection?

Paint protection increases the value of the car when it comes time to resell it. Rocks, insects, and debris can significantly show wear on your paint job within a short period of time. This is particularly true in harsh winter areas where sand is poured on the roads for traction. Vinyl bras can catch dirt and debris between it and the hood causing scratches and discoloration. A properly installed clear bra can solve both of these problems.

What film do you sell?

We sell 3M Ventureshield and Xpel Xtreme and Xpel Ultimate paint protection film.

Can Clear Bras be removed?

Clear Bras are considered semi-permanent.  It is designed to stay on your vehicle until you are ready for it to be removed.

Will the clear bra hurt my paint?

No.  The film will not affect properly cured OEM finishes.  It can be removed years later, and will actually leave the paint below it looking new.  If your vehicle has been repainted inquire with the body shop about curing times before applying the film.

How do I care for the clear bra?

The maintenance for clear bra is the same as paint. First, you should give it several days to finish drying before you wash the car. After that, treat it just like it wasn't there. When using a pressure washer, you should make sure to keep the nozzle at least 2 feet away from the clear bra, as 2000 psi of water can damage just about anything, and will damage the clear bra material. When waxing the car, wax right over the clear bra. You may notice a buildup of wax along the upper edge of the material, and a soft toothbrush works well to clean that edge.

How long does it take to install?

A basic bumper, hood, fender, mirror application can be done in 3-4 hours. We encourage you to take your time during the installation to ensure you do the best job possible.  Our pre-cut film kits are designed for easy installation.

What kits are available for my car?

We have kits for hundreds of makes and models. We cut the film to fit your vehicle and can offer additional pieces for door cups, rear bumpers, and even bicycles!

What if there isn't a kit for my model?

We offer custom applications when a kit is not available.  This occurs sometimes with the older classics or when aftermarket bumpers are installed.

What parts can be protected by the clear auto bra?

Hood: Rock chips show most noticeably on the front of the hood, making it the most popular part of the car to cover. The most common coverage on hoods are 12", 18" or 24" up.
Front Bumper: Again, the forward facing painted surfaces are most likely to be damaged by flying rocks.
Side mirrors: The mirrors catch a lot of damaging stones.
Headlights/Foglights: Headlights are getting to be VERY expensive to replace, so protection is a must.
Roof edge: The leading edge of the roof also gets hit often by high-flying debris.
Sides of roof: A lot of people use ski-racks in the winter, and clear bra material can keep the rack from scratching.
Back bumper: Have you ever scratched up your rear bumper putting luggage into the trunk? Clear bra is the answer.
Door handles: Long fingernails, rings, or keys can scratch up the paint around door handles...but not with clear bra protection.
Tire-splash: The bottom section of the fenders can be damaged by your own tires throwing rocks up.
